NYC X DESIGN

SD_BLOG_BKNY_P1.jpg

The third generation TASK TRAY® and the initial WALLSTATION™ concept were introduced as part of the 2019 NYC x DESIGN Exhibition at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Radial notches were introduced within the side profiles of this generation of the TASK TRAY to allow it to achieve a much wider 150˚ rotational range of motion. This improved its rotational adjustability by 60˚ and achieved both a 30˚ ( bottom left ) & 15˚ ( top right ) working surface angle when docked. These third generation prototypes are shown docked above in raw aluminum prior to powder coating with cherry wood veneers.

TASK TRAY ICFF

SD_BLOG_TT1_P2.jpg

The TASK TRAY®, an innovative, rotationally-adjustable and portable ergonomic workstation was first introduced at the 2018 ICFF in NYC. Inspired by the work surface of the CHOTTO® (seen above), the TASK TRAY was developed to move with the body throughout multiple ergonomically desirable postures. Design development and prototyping began in 2017 and continued through early 2018 prior to its introduction. Realizing the potential for a space-saving, wallmountable and height-adjustable workstation, development continued through 2019 to achieve an increased rotational-range-of-motion and a more horizontal work surface within the WALLSTATION™ ergonomic system.

Design development and prototyping of the TASK TRAY® ( 2017 - 2018 ) progressed quickly once overall proportions were finalized and the design of the quick-release & self-locking mechanisms were completed. Further enhancements included refinement of hardware, increased radial contours, non-slip feet, non-slip rubberized cork work surface and an increase in the rotational adjustability of the work surface from 90˚ to 150˚. Despite its size, the oversized 17” laptop featured above left adequate room on either side of the work surface for the addition of a phone, small tablet and/or mouse.

The CHOTTO® ( chair + ottoman ) prototype on display June 09, 2016 at the Brooklyn Northside Innovation EXPO in NYC. The CHOTTO, a recumbent task seating design, introduced an innovative and health-focused approach to ergonomic design that disrupted the status quo by prioritizing a neutral body posture over fixed computer displays. Its pretensioned and recumbent seating surface reduces body stress by displacing body weight and by dynamically adapting to each individual’s own weight, shape, and movement within an ideal and task-effective posture.
